The use of 3rd party software typically means that the design and source-code of the software is unavailable, which puts strong demands on the system architecture to ensure the trustworthiness of the core vehicle services even if some 3rd party software misuses the interfaces to the system. Moreover, since a telematics service involves several stakeholders and system, it is vital to consider the end-to-end robustness of a service. The aim of ROBUST E2E is to investigate robustness aspects of vehicle telematics services end-to-end and especially in the presence of 3rd party software. Today the vehicle telematics service platform is mainly closed and based on proprietary solutions. This prevents potential 3rd party suppliers from contributing to the growth of available services which would be beneficial for both OEMs and end users. The results from ROBUST E2E will provide important knowledge of how a more open platform can be designed without compromising robustness. Moreover, a better understanding of how telematics services are to be developed end-to-end involving all stakeholders (OEMs, network providers, 3rd party suppliers) will be achieved.
