Subject(s): Abstract: Project number 3 - Fuktskadepotential i asfalt. Abstract: Moisture damage is one of the major causes of premature failure of asphalt pavements. The presence of moisture in the pavement can result in the loss of cohesion within the bitumen itself or the loss of adhesion between the bitumen and the aggregates. As a result the pavement becomes susceptible to pore-pressure damage and premature cracking. The goal of the present project is to develop a theoretical framework, along with an associated measurement framework to explain and quantify the influence of asphalt mixture material and structural parameters on moisture damage susceptibility of the mixture. Identification of the material parameters governing moisture resistance of the mixtures provides a key to designing asphalt mixtures against moisture damage.
