Abstract: Detta projekt ska ta tillvara befintlig kunskap om samband mellan väder och händelser i järnvägssystemet - ”järnvägsväder”, genom samverkan mellan forskare, Trafikverket och järnvägsföretagen utveckla ny kunskap och testa en anpassad ”järnvägsväderprognos”, samt undersöka och driva på frågan om hur anpassade väderprognoser skulle kunna komma Trafikverket och järnvägsföretagen till del, i syfte att öka järnvägstransportens konkurrenskraft och effektivitet. Den grundläggande skillnaden mellan de nuvarande väderprognoserna som nyttjas idag och det projektet ska studera är att befintliga prognoser består av meteorologiska prognoser med ingen eller ytterst begränsad anpassning till järnvägssystemets behov, medan projektets anpassade prognoser beskriver konsekvenserna av vädret för järnvägsbranschens intressenters verksamheter. Projektet bygger vidare på nyligen påbörjad forskning om samband mellan olika vädertyper och specifika händelser i järnvägssystemet.Abstract: This project aims at building upon some previously acquired knowledge on the causal relationships between the weather and events occurring in the railway transportation system, with the aim of creating new knowledge and testing predictions of an adjusted ”railway weather forecast”. This will be achieved through collaboration between research, the Swedish Transport Administration and the railway operators. In addition, the project will explore and contribute to active discussions regarding the future possible use and benefits of adjusted ”railway weather forecasts” for the Swedish Transport Administration and railway companies, with the final goal of strengthening the railway transport efficiency and competitiveness. The basic difference between the current weather forecasts and the forecasts studied in the project is that the current ones are meteorological forecasts with no or little adjustment to the actual needs of the railway transportation companies and administrations, while the adjusted forecasts studied here describe the consequences of the weather for their businesses.
