Abstract: In order to increase the competitiveness of the Swedish aerospace industry, alternative manufacturing processes for static load carrying aero engine structures in titanium are desired. By fabrication simple forgings, sheet metals and small ingots are welded together. To succeed, new manufacturing methods and relations with new sub suppliers are required. The aim of the project is to create prerequisites, develop methods and establish a collaborative cluster of companies which together or separately can manufacture sheet metal parts in titanium alloys for the aero space industry. The aims of the project are: - Development work where SME take necessary development steps, to produce desired sheet metal components for Volvo Aero Corporation, two prototype components are manufactured. - Development of effective methodologies for material characterisation of titanium for analyses of hot sheet metal forming. - Simulation driven development of forming processes suitable for production of titanium components in which resultant geometry and properties are secured. Through the project, a high value for the customer can be obtained (primarily VAC) by not only manufacture titanium components but also deliver results from FE analyses of sheet mental forming and to offer an increased insight to the manufacturing process stamping. The project contributes to the introduction and fortification of analysis methods and systematic ways of working as a natural part of the product and process development at the SMEs.
