Abstract: A large proportion of the negative environmental impact and energy usage in the transport sector is derived from derived from passenger transport. Passenger transport accounted for 71% of total energy usage in the transport sector (domestic) 2011. Since the 60's, private car accounts for over 70% of the total passenger transport, a proportion that has continued to increase up to the current level of just under 80%. This is also reflected in the energy and environmental impact. 2011, for example, 19% of the total domestic carbon emissions was generated by private cars. The project aims to investigate how the energy usage and the environmental impact of the transport sector can be reduced by measures that in the long run reduce the market share of the private car. Since the decision to own one or more cars strongly affect the subsequent mode choice when travelling, models explaining car ownership will be developed and linked to models for mode choice.
