Abstract: E-commerce and various home delivery systems have great relevance for improving the energy efficiency in the transport sector. Essential potentials exist if e-commerce and the home delivery systems result in reduced number of car trips by a shift to more energy efficient modes of transport and/or favour for more efficient freight transport. There are few studies with a holistic perspective. The main objective of this project is to develop and test an analytical framework studying the system effects of e-commerce/home delivery in urban areas with a focus on freight transport and its interaction with passenger transport. A subsidiary aim is to increase the understanding of the unexplored effects of the packaging factor on energy-efficient transport solution in e-commerce. The knowledge in the project will be developed by synthesizing literature, interview studies and system analysis.
