Abstract: Objective and Goal: The main goal of this project is to safely deliver connected lifestyle functionality while also improving driver attention. To achieve this we must overcome issues related to driver distraction guidelines and regulation for visual-manual interaction, meet increased consumer demand for connected lifestyle, and integrate state-of-the-art on-board driver inattention monitoring. Result and Expected Effects: The main expected results of this project include (1) a significant contribution to international HMI Guideline forums by performing research to influence HMI guidelines development and performance testing, (2) a major step towards safely delivered connected lifestyle functionality, and (3) improved driver inattention monitoring. Approach and Implementation: SP1 HMI Guidelines and Validation Processes - This sub-project will contribute to the development of robust and efficient HMI evaluation procedures. SP2 Safe HMI designs - This Sub-project will provide improved, distraction guideline compliant HMI solutions. SP3 Safe Connectivity - The objective of SP3 is to design, develop, and evaluate a safe connectivity platform concept. SP4 Driver Inattention Monitoring - This sub-project will examine available camera-based sensors ability to actively (in real-time) support driver attention.
