Abstract: A “State-of-the-art” study will be carried out of best available energy efficiency measures for ships based on literature studies and interviews. There will be a focus on improvement measures for energy efficient Swedish shipping. The project will cover measures of logistic, technological and operative character: The study of logistic measures aims at identifying energy efficiency measures for ship and port logistics that are relevant for Sweden; The study of technological measures aims at identifying and describing known technological energy efficiency measures for ships; The study of operative measures aims at describing the communication between ports, ship owners and ships and how it affects a crew’s effort of minimising bunker consumption. Further, contracts between different parties within shipping that influence both the operation as well as the incentives for energy efficiency will be included. An important objective of the project is to identify knowledge gaps in a gap-analysis that describes future research needs for energy efficient Swedish shipping.
