Abstract: År 2006 gick Sveriges Redareförening ihop med Chalmers tekniska högskola och Handelshögskolan i Göteborg och bildade kompetenscentret Lighthouse. Tillkommande partners är Vinnova, Västra Götaland Regionen och Sjöfartsverket. I den första fasen som sträcker sig fram till 2015 har mer än 400 miljoner kronor stärkt sjöfartsforskning och utbildning inom ett antal viktiga tematiska områden. Lighthouse första fas (Lighthouse Academy) har haft som syfte att finansiellt stödja forskning och utbildning vid partneruniversiteten. Lighthouse går nu vidare genom att skapa ett nationellt kompetenscenter, som bygger på ett triple helix samarbete mellan industri, akademi och offentlig sektor. Visionen är att vara en drivkraft för att nå sjöfartens nollvision och för att öka den svenska sjöfartsindustrins konkurrenskraft. Uppdraget är att skapa förutsättningar för samarbete kring tvärvetenskaplig forskning, utveckling och innovation för att bidra till en snabbare och effektivare förnyelse av sjöfarten liksom utveckling av nya lösningar och produkter. Inriktningen förväntas ligga inom affärsmodeller och logistik, alternativa bränslen, fartygs energisystem samt informations- och kommunikationsteknologi.Abstract: Lighthouse is a unique multidisciplinary maritime competence and research centre, which is based on triple helix cooperation between industry, academy and public sector. The vision is to be an important driver in reaching the Zero Vision and increasing the competitiveness of Swedish maritime industry. The mission is to create collaboration on interdisciplinary research, development and innovation for a faster and more effective renewal of maritime transport and development of new solutions and products. Lighthouse aims to facilitate collaboration on research and innovation. By bringing partners together for solving a problem or challenge, develop a common project description, find funding for project execution, monitor progress and finally communicate results to the public Lighthouse will contribute to rapid change and sustainable transport solutions. By using a multidisciplinary approach and bringing academy and industry close together it is hoped that problem solving and implementation will be effective.
