Abstract: Materials in Biofuels (MIB) is a relatively uninvestigated research field and the former common Vinnova Gröna Bilen 2 project revealed lots of new questions. In this project we want to go deeper and also expand the research extent by involving other research institutes and supplier companies. The aim is to develop standard test methods in order to map the critical properties of metals and polymer materials in different biofuels (alcohols and biodiesel). We want to obtain better understanding of degradation processes and aging properties of biodiesel fuels. Material testing will be performed to reveal what´s happening to metals and polymer materials when they are affected by biofuels and their degradation to determine the construction limits. The project will also investigate the interaction between polymers and metals in biofuels. The two aluminium supplier companies will focus on finding cost effective solutions for usage of aluminium alloys that can withstand ethanol fuels.
