Abstract: This project is a part of VCC's ambition to develop a new engine achitecture that is capable to meet future expectations on performance, fuel consumption and emissions. The focus in this project will be on the gas exchange system which includes the turbosystem, inlet- and exhaust system and EGR system. The bulk of the work will be focused on improving transient performance, which is a prerequisite for replacing large engines with small downsized engines. In this jobb, among other studies, a comparison between a two-stage turbosystem and a combination of mechanical compressor combined with a tirbo, will be performed in full scale engine testing. This project also includes a PhD work at CICERO in order to reduce the entalpi losses from exhast valve exit to the turbine entry. Also included is studies of new innovative EGR systems for gasoline engines. In addition new concepts for charge air cooling will be studied.
