Abstract: Experiments in engine test bench can only provide information about the exhaust before and after a vehicle catalyst, but not any knowledge about what extent accumulation and reaction occurs in different parts of the catalyst. Catalyst models are therefore invaluable tools to understand what happens inside the catalyst when it is exposed to the variations in exhaust flow, temperature and composition that occurs during normal operation. For the model to give an accurate description of the reality it has to be fitted to experiments. This project is aiming at developing methods to assure that the model contains all necessary parts, methods to choose crucial experiments for model fitting and to make the method for fitting more efficient. The research is performed at Chalmers, the first part of the project as post-doc. Experimental data for the method development is obtained from regular engine bench tests at Scania and Johnson Matthey.
