Subject(s): Abstract: Syftet med projektet är att studera hur beläggningar i insprutningssystemet orsakade av användning av biodrivmedel leder till funktonsstörningar i motorns injektorer. Abstract: The world is shifting towards more use of biofuels. Biodiesels have properties making them prone to form degradation products that can adhere to surfaces in the fuel system where the most sensitive part is the injector. Scania is the only heavy duty diesel engine producing company that designs and produces fuel injection systems in-house in Sweden. Biofuel research is a key to remain competitive with these components. The project will study the effect of fuel injection system parameters on deposit formation for different biodiesel types and blends. Accelerated engine tests will be carried out generating deposits. Typical system parameters that will be studied are temperature, pressure, combustion type and hardware design. Materials and deposits will be analysed. The project will result in guidelines for fuel system parameters giving at least equal performance and robustness with biofuel as with petroleum based fuel.
