Abstract: Large fuel consumption reductions have recently been realised in production cars, especially regarding powertrains. However, major improvements are needed on the interior climate systems, which also require fuel and electricity. Heating and cooling of the interior must also be better balanced with the available heat and electricity from the total energy management of the car. More efficient engines give less surplus heat for climate comfort and future heat management cannot be handled with today's technology. Thus, there is a lack of knowledge on how to reduce the energy consumed and what trade-offs that are acceptable, both towards other attributes and regarding customer requirements on climate comfort. In addition, this should be managed within a constantly reduced product development time. The target is to develop reliable models and tools that can reduce 20% of the energy consumption and be used prior to physical testing, reducing up to 1 year of development time.
