Subject(s): Abstract: Avsikten med det här projektet är att öka kunskapen om de fenomen som är väsentliga för utvecklingen av strömningsfältet inne i och kring främre hjulhus med roterande hjul på personbilar, samt hur fenomenen påverkar strömningsfältet nedströms utefter fordonets underrede, sida och vid bakhjulen.Abstract: Background: Demands on fuel consumption require vehicles with lowered aerodynamic drag. Approximately 25% of the vehicles drag is caused by the wheels. Aims and objectives: A detailed experimental and numerical study of the flow-fields in and around a wheel-house with rotating wheels. The aim is to use these studies to gain knowledge that will allow the aerodynamic drag to be reduced. Results and impact:The results will lead to better aerodynamic optimisation of the vehicle and give improved fuel consumption. Implementation of plan and methodology: Exploit both model- and full-scale experiments together with numerical simulation in order to systematically increase the understanding of the flow phenomena and subsequently control them in order to reduce the aerodynamic drag.
