Abstract: The project is focusing on development of commercially viable solutions for environmentally sound goods transportation as an alternative to the goods transports today solely based on diesel as fuel. This is made possible by using: Energy efficient powertrain: - increasing energy efficiency ca 25% by using diesel-incineration process instead of the otto-cycle as conventional biomethane powertrains do, -using biomethane as the main fuel, including a small share of diesel fuel which makes compression ignition possible. Liquefied bio methane: -to make possible an economically and environmentally sound distribution of the biomethane - from production facility to filling station, - increasing the range of the vehicle to acceptable levels for vehicle users. Thereby making the vehicle proporties of the biomethane product offer commercially viable. The key to make market introduction a success is to co-ordinate the vehicle development and the building of the infrastructure, as well as to overcome the dominating scepticism actors in the transport sector have to products not running solely on diesel. Therefore, the actors within Project BiMe Trucks together and with assistance from Swedish Energy Agency want to reach the project targets of BiMe Trucks as stated: Before half-year of year 2012 the project shall: - build at least three filling stations for liquefied biomethane, - develop and offer the market energy efficient heavy duty vehicles running on biomethane using MDE-technology, - deliver 100 vehicles to be used in commercial traffic.
