Abstract: Det trafikgerontolgiska temaprogrammet har följande syften: (1) bedriva teoretiskt välmotiverade empiriska studier med fokus på sådana forskningsfrågor där vi identifierat de tydligaste bristerna i den internationella forskningslitteraturen (såsom frågan om äldre bilförares olycksinblandning) (2) fortsätta med ett teoretiskt arbete som bidrar till en bred och mångvetenskaplig integrering av de vetenskapliga kunskaperna inom trafikgerontologin (3) främja en långsiktig kompetensutveckling inom trafikgerontologin (4) bidra till utvecklandet av en valid socialpsykologiskt orienterad forskningsansats inom transportforskning Temaprojektets resultat kommer att påverka både forskarnas och samhällets syn på äldre trafikanter och bidra till att mera hållbara och på vetenskaplig kunskaps grundade beslut kan fattas inom transportpolitiken. Temaprogrammets delprojekt kan grovt indelas i tre olika innehållsområden: den epidemiologiska, den färdighetspsykologiska och den socialpsykologiska. Detta präglar i viss mån metodvalen vid enskilda projekt. En del frågeställningar är dock gränsöverskridande såtillvida att de är relevanta för flera av dessa områden samtidigt. Den metodlogiska ansatsen är bred: både kvalitativa och kvantitativa metoder används, beroende på delprojektens art.Abstract: This is a broad ´theme´ project with the following general aims: (1) To do theoretically well founded research on areas whitin traffic gerontology where we have identified the most obvious ´white areas´ or erronoeous beliefs within the international research literature (such as the issue of older drivers´ accident risk) (2) to continue with a theoretical work contributing to a broad and multidisciplinary integration of the existing scinetific evidence within traffic gerontology (3) to foster a long-term development of Swedish competence within traffic gerontology (4) to contribute to the development of a social psychological research approach within transportation research The results of the theme project will influence both researchers´ and the society´s view on ageing and transportation and contribute to sustainable, on scientific evidence based policies within the area of transportation. The subprojects can be roughly divided into three different areas: epidemiology, studies of skilled performance, and social psychology. This is reflected in the methological choices. Some subprojects are nevertheless multidisciplinary in the sense that they have relevance for several of these areas. The methodological approch is broad: both quantitative and qualitative methods are used, depending on the nature of the subprojects.
