Abstract: This project is a continuation of a project started within the framework of the previous research programme (Fordonsforskningsprogrammet) as a result of a strong requirement for enhanced knowledge of parameters influencing the evolution of friction in wet clutches.
The project aim is to develop dimensioning criteria for clutches along with simulation models in order to enable the development of new automatic gearboxes having low losses together with good gear-changing comfort, all at a competitive price. A specially constructed test rig will be utilised for experimental investigations, results from which will then be incorporated into theoretical models of the clutch. These models have been developed over many years at Luleå University of Technology. The project work is carried out by a postgraduate student and supervisor at Luleå University of Technology in close collaboration with a project organisation of industrial supervisors and a supporting project group at Volvo CE AB.
