Subject(s): Online resources: Abstract: The HMI issue (based on the ESoP on HMI) is in focus on the European scene for two reasons. Firstly, the idea of an in-vehicle HMI Certification is launched; secondly, in-vehicle use of nomadic devices has not been covered to the full extent in the existing version of the ESoP on HMI and an amendment is on its way. The idea about a Certification procedure has met strong negative reactions from the European vehicle industry (ACEA). The principles behind a certification procedure are discussed in the group and the difficulties of finding suitable criteria to be used for issuing a certificate for a specific a HMI in-vehicle design of the ESoP HMI functions addressed (not strongly and directly safety critical) are highlighted. In this context there is a need to identify what is the present state-of-the-art in this field (incl. identifying possible obstacles). The in-vehicle use of nomadic devices is also addressed in TeleFOT and the Swedish TeleFOT Test Site will be approached in order to find ways to make complementary and detailed studies of HMI issues and nomadic devices. The end result will be based of three entries; Firstly, the state-of-the-art study will highlight specific crucial issues related to HMI Certification; secondly, the results of TeleFOT “Detailed FOTs” and the results related to HMI topics could be made available; and thirdly, further proposed investigations on selected topics will be listed in relation to the TeleFOT Swedish Test Site. The intention is that the results of the work would help Swedish authorities to assess whether the HMI Certification process is feasible or not (in general as well as in the specific case on in-vehicle use of nomadic devices).
